skillset

If you haven't worked with us before you may wish to learn a little more about our collective technical skillset, i.e. gain a fuller overview of our skills than simply "we're good at web design".

We have a broad knowledge of all current internet technologies and practices but rather than be tempted to fall into CV mode and list every web based task we have ever performed over the last eight years we consider it more useful to highlight the key areas in which we excel.

  • ASP.NET development

Technically speaking, ASP.NET is Microsoft’s web application framework for programmers. Non-technically speaking it provides the building blocks from which we can create complex bespoke web solutions tailored to your exact needs.

The latest 3.5 release of ASP.NET allows us to create exciting websites which can be built faster and run quicker than ever before. This powerful technology can be used to create anything from small, entry level websites through to large, enterprise-class web applications.

  • ASP development

Whilst our preferred development platform is now the latest version of ASP.NET many of our existing sites have been built using Microsoft’s previous technology ASP (or as many developers now refer to it ‘classic’ ASP).

With over eight year’s experience of traditional ASP development we are well suited to enhance existing websites based on this technology, or migrate such sites to ASP.NET.

  • Database design and integration

The basis of any robust ecommerce or content managed website will be a backend database acting as a repository for product details and prices, customer records and orders, or simply the content of the web pages themselves.

Our database of choice is Microsoft’s SQL Server, partly because of the tight integration possible between this and ASP.NET but also because it is the most popular database in the world with around 75% of the global market and therefore the trusted solution for the majority of the world’s mission critical data applications. However, we are equally at home with MS-SQL’s most famous open source counterpart, namely MySQL.

  • Content Management Systems (CMS)

The majority of the sites we create incorporate some form of bespoke content management. Indeed, we have been enhancing the websites we create with this type of functionality for over eight years and we therefore consider this a particular area of expertise.

In simple terms, a content management system provides a simple and intuitive interface for website operators allowing them to add, amend or remove selective site content.

From a technical perspective, the content of the editable pages is stored in a database on a web server and such web pages are generated on the fly when a visitor accesses the page.

  • SMS (text messaging)

We are helping a growing number of our clients benefit from the power of SMS text messaging by integrating this technology into their web solutions.

The possible applications for this technology are vast, but in broad terms SMS can either be used as a communication tool between you and your clients (or staff) or as an additional revenue stream by utilisation of premium rate SMS.
